We at Zimmerman Ford feel compelled to offer up a round of applause to our esteemed American automaker. It set out to give its SUV-segment staple, the Ford Explorer, a fresh look and feel for the 2016 model year, and it definitely delivered.

What went into its massive makeover? Join AutoGuide.com Road Test Editor, Mike Schlee, as he explains:

While all three of the Explorer's available engines are excellent, our favorite is arguably the mid-level turbo 2.3-liter four-cylinder.

And, for good reason! It's seriously spunky -- with 270 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque on tap -- and also quite efficient, too. When had with front-wheel drive, for instance, this four-banger will achieve 22 mpg combined (19 city/28 highway), a fine figure for an auto this athletic.

If you'd like to learn more about this first-rate full-sizer, or wish to get behind the wheel of one, we encourage you to drop by our Cedar Rapids, IA dealership. Our automotive experts are ready to answer your every question about the Explorer, or any other Ford model within the present portfolio.
